Splinting

Splinting helps mobile or moving teeth to stabilize even when a lot of bone is lost. Mobility or moving teeth due to periodontal disease and bone loss, can be splinted (within reason) to create stability and to try to keep the teeth as long as possible. Sometimes teeth that are moving create gaps or change the bite. Splinting is then often recommended as otherwise teeth will eventually be lost as they keep moving to the area with the least amount of pressure / resistance. The additional benefit of splinting on the front teeth is that it can have a hugely positive change in aesthetics especially when teeth have moved and created unsightly gaps. If a front tooth has been lost it can often be replaced with a splint as well, filling up the gap and replacing the tooth at the same time. If a front tooth is about to get lost we can also choose to replace it with itself splinted in (no root). Splinting is part of Bost treatment should it deem necessary.
